Where it Begins

Where it Begins
Untitled Document

It all starts on paper with detailed historical research. We scour libraries museums and records finding the most detailed drawings, designs, schematics.

Mick Oakey (Editor of the Aviation Historian), our in-house historian, researches every creation creating a book of details.

Everything is so true to life it is quite remarkable

Carving

Carving
We only use the finest Philippine mahogany and it is hand selected by Roger an expert in selecting wood for modelling. The wood is then kiln dried to reduce its weight. The wood then goes to the carvers . Our team has 12 carvers and led by Charlie they carve the base model. This process takes up to four weeks.
Putty

Putty

After 'putty' the model is then ready for its first coat of paint. It is painted in a single colour or 'primer.' This base colour allows us to bring out every intricate detail in the artwork. By now over 20 hours of work have gone into the model and we are 5 weeks into the build.

The primered model then goes to the internal detailers. They shape the internal details and put them in before applying the clear canopy and taping it over. It is then sent back to putty for the last time.
On to the artists, of all the skill and precision required this is arguably  where the most attention to detail comes in. Using original paint schemes and where possible original paints the artists carefully re-create the liveries and designs. Over 35 coats of paint are used in this stage to create our perfect finish
The Final Stage
Here the final details are added, the pitot tubes, the winglets. Each and every last detail is added and the final pieces of paint wok are completed.
The whole model is then coated in a protective lacquer and the tape removed to reveal the perfect internal detailing.
12 weeks of work, 35 coats of paint over 7 stages of creation and only then is a Bravo Delta Model complete.

"It is absolutely AWESOME! I'm really impressed with the detail and the quality of workmanship and finish" C Bishop, Mooney 201
